with air systems is a fresh air supply, as well as systems for evacuation of fumes
and vapors. Welding accessories known as flashback arrestors utilize check valves
for prevention of the reverse flow of gas. Ground
clamps are welding accessories that are used to connect the grounding wire to
a surface or a grounding point. They also allow dissipation of a welding current
while minimizing arcing. A
planisher is a piece of weld finishing equipment that flattens weld to a surface
that is flush with the base metal. (Roll planishers are welding accessories that
are often used for finishing circumferential pipe welds.) Weld
sensors are accessories that measure such parameters as current, temperature,
and force and provide feedback for these important parameters in welding processes.
Some are displacement sensors used to detect position and orientation for consistent
nut placement, etc. Welding
accessories are used in specific processes such as gas metal arc welding,
gas tungsten arc welding, shielded metal arc welding, and plasma arc welding.
The Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) process is commonly known as the Metal Inert
Gas (MIG) process. This process is also referred to as short circuit transfer.
The Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process is commonly known as the Tungsten
Inert Gas (TIG) welding process. The TIG welding process is one in which metals
are joined by melting base and filler metals with an arc struck between a tungsten
electrode and the work piece. Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), which is stick
electrode welding, is among the most widely used welding processes. The flux covering
the electrode melts during welding. This forms gas and slag, which shields the
arc and molten weld
